Anilu and her husband Diego run a small B&B in Urubamba, Peru’s Sacred Valley. Their home is an hour and a half drive outside Cusco through a beautiful, rugged mountain landscape. Diego is a professional chef and who has worked in restaurants in Lima. Anilu is not a chef, but she loves to eat and in her previous professional life she was a food engineer. They moved to Urubama for a slower pace of life and the chance to raise their young twins in the countryside. Their B&B has a warm, relaxed feel and is decorated with artisan furniture and curios made by local artisans. Diego cooks traditional Peruvian dishes with gourmet quality, so be prepared to eat well at their home! Join Anilu and Diego for a cooking lesson in their outdoor kitchen Diego will show you how to make classic Peruvian dishes. You might learn to prepare dishes like ceviche (fresh fish cured in citrus juice), lomo saltado (marinated beef sirloin, sautéed with onions, peppers and fried potatoes), tacu tacu (rice and roasted beans), papa la huancaína (potatoes with a spicy, savory sauce), causa rellena (potato puree garnished with yellow aji sauces and lemon, stuffed with onion, avocado and tuna) or arroz chaufa (sautéed rice with green onions and sesame seeds, a chifa (Chinese-Peruvian) dish). Learn how to properly cut the fish for ceviche and how to carefully balance the flavors while Diego teaches you some of his favorite cooking tricks. Diego can demonstrate how to cook the dishes, or you can have a hands-on lesson. Anilu and Diego also offer an optional market tour add-on; after meeting at their B&B Anilu will take you by rickshaw to the local market for a private tour. Please note that while alcohol is not included in the cost of the experience, alcohol is available for purchase onsite at their bar where they have a variety of local beers and cocktails on offer. Anilu and Diego's B&B is located 1 1/2 hours outside of Cusco; they offer round-trip transportation from Cusco for an additional fee.

Urubamba
Urubamba is a well endowed town situated in the shadow of beautiful Chicon and Pumahuanca glaciers. The attractive Plaza de Armas is laid back and attractive, with palm trees and a couple of pines sourounded by interesting topiary. Weekends there's a large market on Jirón Palacio, which serves local villages; and at the large ceramic workshops set around a lovely garden at Avenida Berriozabal 111, new and ancient techniques are used to produce colourful, Amerindian inspired pots, household items and artistic pieces for sale on site. Urubamba makes an ideal base from which to explore mountains and lower hills around Sacred Valley, which are filled with sites. Also within walking distance, the salt pans of Salinas, still in use after more than four hundred years, are situated only a short distance from the village of Tarabamba, 6km along the road from Urubamba to Ollantaytambo.
